Throughout Beast of Reincarnation, you’ll unlock plenty of skills for Emma and Koo, but in the early game that can be a little overwhelming. You’ll first need to decide where to invest your attribute points, as some skills and mods are locked until you upgrade the main skill they’re nested beneath.
While there are several viable approaches, we think the best way to approach the early game while you’re getting to grips with the mechanics is to focus on increasing Emma’s AoE damage while leaning on Koo’s support abilities. With that in mind, these are the best Beast of Reincarnation skills to focus on unlocking first:
Emma’s Best Skills
Hair
Emma’s hair can be used as a weapon as default, which isn’t immediately obvious. However, putting her attribute points into Vitality and then using skill points on the Hair category to enhance it means that enemies hit with her hair will receive more damage.
Helm Splitter
This skill is nested in the Hair category, and allows Emma to slam down from a height to damage enemies beneath her. You can enhance it, but keep in mind that you’ll need to put attribute points into her Vitality stat, otherwise you won’t be able to progress it. Helm Splitter is effective against normal enemies and bosses, meaning that Emma can get high away from the danger, and respond with a slam attack.
Petal Barrage
While in midair, Emma can perform a targeted area attack that deals huge damage. Use this when you’re facing bosses, or large groups of enemies, as it’ll take down a chunk of their health. Use this time to combine it with an attack from Koo for maximum effect.
Tracking Shot
Although this is another of Emma’s base skills, it’s worth having, especially if you use ranged weapons often. Hitting an enemy with her ranged weapon will infuse your arrows with blight, so they’ll track enemies. You’ll need to have 7 attribute points in Emma’s Florescence stat, so don’t prioritize this over the others, but grab it when you can.
Koo’s Best Skills
Pounce
Koo’s base Pounce skill requires attribute points to be put into his Strength stat to enhance it, but it’s well worth it. When Emma commands Koo to “Run Ahead” he will seek out weak enemies and pounce on them to instantly kill them. The chance of success is shown above the enemy’s head, but this can’t be used against strong enemies or Nushi.
Detect Hidden Item
Koo’s ability to detect hidden items requires the Pounce skill to be level two or above, but it comes in handy when exploring new areas. He’ll alert you to unusual objects, seeds, strongboxes, and more.
Dokuzeri: Fang
This attack is obtained after the second boss, but it’s worth using as soon as you have it. Koo’s fangs will become laced with venom that cause poisonous dokuzeri flowers to bloom. The enemy will also become poisoned, taking damage over time.
Lay Flame Trap / Lay Landmine
You’ll need the initial Lay Landmine skill before you can acquire the Lay Flame Trap skill, but these enable Koo to lay dangerous traps for enemies during battle. It’s a good way of controlling the field when facing more than one enemy.
With that said, there are plenty of viable combinations especially in the later game, these are just the skills we recommend concentrating on first.
