  • Reports highlight Xreal’s recent achievement with the Aura smart glasses, which state reservations have “surpassed” 10,000 units.
  • Two of the Xreal Aura reservation packages have sold out ahead of its fall launch, with the company teasing its final price will be “no more than $1,500 before tax.”
  • In June, Xreal started its reservation period for the Aura, highlighting its work with Google’s Android XR and partnership with game studios to create an experience consumers won’t forget.

Xreal stoked the hype flames for its Aura smart glasses around Google I/O this year. After launching reservations for the device in June, Xreal is over the moon with early interest.

Earlier today (Aug 20), a report by GamingTrend surfaced, highlighting Xreal’s official reservation numbers for its Project Aura smart glasses. According to Xreal, reservations for Aura have “surpassed” 10,000 units. The publication obtained a statement from the company, which reads, “The milestone reflects strong early interest across both consumer and enterprise audiences as XREAL continues building toward the next phase of lightweight, spatial computing.”

Xreal’s CEO and co-founder, Chi Xu, offered their remarks about the Aura’s reservation achievements. Chi Xu states, “Surpassing 10,000 reservations is an exciting signal of demand across consumers, developers, and enterprise partners.” While Xreal is reportedly “encouraged” by the early interest from so many consumers, there’s still more to unravel about Aura.

The Xreal Aura Founder Priority Pass was limited when reservations first began in June, and it quickly sold out. The “Launch Credit” reservation package has also sold out, which let consumers put $99 down and receive $199 toward the Aura’s launch. Right now, consumers can still reserve the Xreal Aura for $199 through the “Priority Deposit” option. Regarding price, Xreal finally says the Aura’s “final retail price will be no more than $1,500 before tax.”

Looking forward to it

The Xreal Aura is expected to launch this fall, so we can take a moment to revisit its highlights. Xreal announced the smart glasses in June, stating the Aura will feature Google’s Android XR and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite. During its reservation announcement, Xreal’s CEO Chi Xu said, “XREAL AURA sets a new benchmark for OST XR glasses, bringing powerful AI-driven experiences to both work and everyday life.”

Staying lightweight was a true goal for Xreal with these glasses. As a result, the Aura weighs less than 95g and offers a 70-degree FOV. Since Xreal is working with Google, the company confirmed that the Google Play Store will be open to users with Aura. Android apps for mobile and tablet devices can be downloaded onto the Aura whenever users wish. There are also a series of games on the way, such as Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, thanks to an Amazon MGM Studios partnership, and Fallout: Factions from Modiphius Entertainment.

Sports lovers are getting the Fox Sports VR app, which is sure to be a unique experience. Xreal teased two months ago that when the Aura launches, consumers can find it in-store at Best Buy, its first retail partner.

Android Central’s Take

From a techie standpoint, the Xreal Aura is pretty cool. I said this during my June coverage that the Aura looks good—and it does. Its a clean design, and the spatial capabilities, plus what’s been integrated on the AI side, look useful and fun.
