True tactility is missing from a lot of modern tech. Whether it’s glass screens or silicone watch straps, it can often feel very clinical, lacking warmth and softness.
That’s where the Flowtica Scribe comes in, an AI notetaker that’s also a real pen. However, with the launch of the Flowtica Folio, the company has nailed blending a high-tech item with the delightful feel of old-school products many people miss using.
But it still hides a fun secret that makes it more high-tech than you may expect.
What is the Flowtica Folio?
Made for use with the Scribe
The Flowtica Folio is a notebook designed for use with the Flowtica Scribe. It’s made of 100% recycled leather with a soft microfiber interior, has a notebook inside, a storage sleeve for the Scribe, and space for cards and receipts.
An elasticated band keeps the Folio closed, and it has an inner part to use as a bookmark in the notebook.
The use of recycled leather is inspired. It’s soft and flexible, but feels hard wearing and warm in your hand. Right now, it’s shiny and new, but over time it should take on a pleasing patina, something many want from leather products.
There’s one sleeve for a card inside, which perfectly fits card-style item trackers like the KeySmart or Eufy trackers, and a lower pocket which can fit a credit card in portrait orientation, or a collection of paper receipts.
I love the size too. It’s designed for the Flowtica Scribe, so it’s a similar length so it feels hand-sized, allowing you to carry it around comfortably.
What about the notebook?
It hides a secret
While the Flowtica Folio is the epitome of an offline product, the notebook inside holds a secret. It has special markings on each page which are recognized by the Flowtica Scribe’s app.
It means you can take a photo of your written notes, upload it to the app, and the software not only transcribes the text, but also adds the action points to your to-do list. It stores the photo, and adds the text to the app’s search too.
I tried it out using my worst handwriting. The Flowtica app took the text and transcribed it without any mistakes, and created a short to-do list of my action points in a few moments.
It’s fast and easy, and I can see how it would help organize busy people who take a lot of notes. The one downside is the app doesn’t have its own photo mode, so you have to take a photo in your phone’s normal camera app and upload it.
Flowtica Folio is only for the Scribe?
Maybe, but don’t forget it’s low-tech
The Flowtica Folio and the notebook’s special feature is specifically made for the Scribe, but I don’t think you’d absolutely have to use it for the AI pen.
I could see people using it until the 90-page notebook had been filled, and then swapping it out for a non-Scribe notebook, and putting a regular pen in the holder.
I’ve carried it around for the day and used the notebook too, and really like the way it slows my day down. I write a note instead of typing it, and the act of closing the Folio and wrapping the elastic keeper around it is really pleasant.
It not only adds a new dimension to the Scribe, but because there are no batteries to expire, processors to slow down, or software to update, it’ll serve another purpose and last for years even if you stop using the Scribe AI pen itself.
How much does the Flowtica Folio cost?
Cheaper when you buy it with the Scribe
The Flowtica Folio costs $39 from Flowtica’s website. Buy the Scribe and Folio together and it’s a little cheaper. You pay $188 for the Scribe and Folio, or $238 for the Complete Set which includes the AI Pen, its charging case, and additional nibs and extras.
Flowtica will sell new notebook inserts, but the price has not been confirmed at the time of writing.
The Flowtica Scribe’s AI features do have a subscription attached depending on your use, starting at $15 per month. It can be used for free if you record less than 300 minutes per month.
