Looking to give organisations greater choice over the deployment and operation of wireless WAN infrastructure, Ericsson has launched NetCloud Private, a new technology offer built to deliver foundational cellular lifecycle management into customer-controlled environments.
Designed for government agencies, critical-infrastructure operators and other regulated organisations that rely on 5G and wireless networks as a foundation for operations, NetCloud Private enables customers to centrally manage Ericsson Cradlepoint devices while keeping network management and telemetry data in their environment.
Putting the launch into perspective, Ericsson cited research from Gartner, predicting that by 2029, over 50% of multinational organisations will have a digital sovereignty strategy, a significant increase from less than 10% in 2025. This emerging trend is said to be creating a “significant” governance challenge for managing connectivity across vehicle fleets, remote fixed sites and internet of things (IoT) networks, where both operational agility and strict local regulation are said to be “non-negotiable”.
NetCloud Private is said to resolve this trade-off by delivering core capabilities of the Ericsson NetCloud platform in a package that customers can host themselves. With its centralised management, NetCloud Private offers capabilities in onboarding, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and software updates for up to thousands of distributed routers from a single platform.
All of this, says Ericsson, will enable reliable cellular network deployments across public safety, defence, smart city and critical infrastructure environments.
“NetCloud Private is a direct response to our customers who need the proven power of our wireless WAN solutions in a customer-owned environment,” said Ericsson head of enterprise product and engineering for enterprise wireless solutions Pankaj Malhotra. “By leveraging advanced data-handling techniques and secure encryption capabilities, we provide a higher level of trust for governments, enterprises and international organisations.
“This offering empowers our customers to direct their own network management strategy, providing a trusted and scalable way to manage their networks while upholding data residency and compliance standards.”
The system’s development is also said to have been shaped by the needs of organisations operating in highly controlled environments, including government agencies, regional service providers, public safety organisations and critical infrastructure operators.
Ericsson assured that organisations can deploy NetCloud in a way that aligns with their data residency, operational and governance requirements while maintaining centralised visibility and control over their wireless networks. Network management and telemetry data will remain within the customer-controlled environment, such as an on-premise datacentre or a trusted in-country cloud.
The NetCloud Private system will be generally available globally from October 2026.
As Ericsson was launching NetCloud Private, it also announced that Kansas carrier Nex-Tech Wireless had signed a four-year infrastructure partnership to bring 5G standalone to rural communities. The Ericsson platform includes a radio access network, cloud-native core and data operations technology that will cover 85% of the operator’s network footprint.
With the deployment, Ericsson was confident that Nex-Tech would benefit from an infrastructure that enables the company to compete, grow their subscriber base and stay modern for years to come, with tech such as AI-capable RAN upgrades; cloud-native 5G core on Ericsson’s Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution; and Telco DataOps for billing and revenue management across 5G deployments.
