TL;DR
- Samsung has started rolling out Google Photos integration in Samsung Gallery.
- This lets you automatically back up photos and videos in Samsung Gallery via Google Photos.
- Unfortunately, it sounds like you can’t view your entire Google Photos library in Samsung’s photo app.
Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it was ending its partnership with Microsoft to back up photos and videos to the cloud. This partnership allowed Galaxy owners to automatically back up their photos and videos to OneDrive via Samsung Gallery. We learned earlier this week that Google will team up with Samsung instead, and it looks like the fruits of this partnership are now rolling out.
Samsung has started pushing out Google Photos integration with Samsung Gallery, according to tipster Ice Universe on X. More specifically, the latest version of Samsung Gallery (v15.9.01.7) now offers a “Sync photos and videos” option. This can be viewed by opening the Gallery app, then tapping Menu > Settings > Sync photos and videos. If you can’t see this option, then the Google Photos integration isn’t live for you just yet. For what it’s worth, we aren’t seeing this feature on our Galaxy phones. The X user reports that this integration is already working for them.
This integration is useful if you value cloud-based backups via Google but don’t want to deal with the Google Photos app in the first place. Then again, you only have to set up automatic cloud backups once via the Google Photos app.

In any event, this isn’t the first OEM gallery app to support Google Photos integration. Android phone makers like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and OPPO integrated Google Photos support in their gallery apps back in 2024. This integration indeed allowed you to automatically back up photos and videos to Google’s cloud.
Unfortunately, Google’s support page suggests you can’t browse your entire Google Photos library via Samsung Gallery. That’s a real missed opportunity, as other OEM gallery apps offered this functionality a couple of years ago. This would’ve been a great way to quickly edit a previously backed-up photo with Samsung Gallery’s excellent tools.
In any event, Samsung’s previous partnership with Microsoft for OneDrive integration is scheduled to expire at the end of the month. So it stands to reason that more people should see the Gallery/Google Photos integration then.
