Reactions have been in an uproar across social media and publications early today (Sept. 22). Samsung has reportedly delayed its major Android update, and we have a general timeline for when to expect it.
Reports have been fast and furious on social media; however, we’re getting started with a post by SammyGuru. The post reminds us that Samsung originally announced One UI 9’s arrival last week, on September 16. The Android 17 update was supposed to begin rolling out globally to more users on September 21 (yesterday), but that didn’t happen.
This is where things get strange. Tarun Vats brought this up on X, too, stating that Samsung Thailand’s blog changed the original September 21 date to September 28. However, early this morning, the company changed the date once again.

Now, September 28 is no longer present. Samsung has replaced this missed date with a general “September 2026” launch window. The blog reads, “In Thailand, the update will first be available on the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy S25 series, and Galaxy Z7 series within September, with further updates to the Galaxy S23 FE later this year.” It’s hard to think one way or the other right now. Either Samsung is still sticking to this delayed September 28 date, or we’re going to see it even later.
However, Samsung can’t go too late into the month. September only has 30 days. So we’ll either see the update on the 28th, 29th, or 30th. Either way, this development is extremely disappointing.
Surprise, surprise
To remind you, we’ve been dealing with five months of One UI 9 testing with Samsung. Testing for the Galaxy S26 series started for users in May. The company synced its beta across multiple regions, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the U.S. The start was pretty light, offering users a glimpse into a few new features for the Contacts app and Samsung Notes.
Fast-forward to September, and we received the wondrous announcement of One UI 9’s full release. Funnily enough, Samsung’s U.S. newsroom post didn’t mention a specific date for the global release. Makes one curious. Regardless, Samsung said it was pushing its update in South Korea on September 16. Global users were to follow, but it looks like we’re all left waiting—again.

I’ve got nothing to say. That’s not true. I have something to say, but I’d rather not. It’s frustrating. That’s also the sentiment I’m getting from users on social media, too. People are annoyed and tired and confused about the delay. If you remember Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update, that was hounded by delay after delay. I can’t imagine One UI 9 getting pushed back into October, but I guess I won’t hold my breath about it, either.
