Meta has a new way to talk to its AI without putting on a pair of glasses.

At the end of Wednesday’s Meta Connect keynote, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Muse Charm, a small, always-on handheld device built around Muse, Meta’s AI assistant. The Tamagotchi-like gadget is designed for people who don’t wear Meta’s smart glasses, and Zuckerberg called it the fastest way to talk to Muse without wearing them.

The reveal was set up earlier in the keynote. During a live demo, Zuckerberg used Meta’s glasses to talk with his customized Muse assistant, which he’d named Agrippa, about a handheld device he was working on. That device turned out to be Muse Charm.

Muse sat at the center of this year’s keynote. Meta describes it as a personal agent that can set goals, share ideas, and run tasks in the background, and users can customize its personality and voice. Muse offers free usage alongside paid subscriptions. Zuckerberg also suggested Meta could eventually collect a small fee on transactions the assistant helps complete.

Muse Charm will ship by the holidays in December, according to Zuckerberg. Meta did not announce a price and said more details will come later.

The device enters a category with a rocky track record. Standalone AI gadgets like Humane’s Ai Pin and the Rabbit R1 drew harsh reviews after launching in 2024, and Humane discontinued the AI Pin the following year. Muse Charm’s main selling point is that it runs on the same assistant as Meta’s glasses. Whether that helps it avoid the same fate may not be clear until it’s in people’s hands.

I have no idea how Meta made a VR headset that's 83% lighter and 60% smaller than Apple Vision Pro, but I'm all here for it
