Even the most expensive devices are subject to bugs. Case in point: a number of users of the $2,100 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have reported that the YouTube app isn’t working correctly on their phones.
A post on the Korean-language Samsung community forum has been racking up comments from users of the Z Fold 8 Ultra and other Galaxy phones for weeks now, with many echoing the initial post’s point that YouTube streams have been freezing up.
Based on what we can gather from the machine-translated post and comments, on some Galaxy devices, navigating away from the YouTube app while watching a video then returning to YouTube can result in the video freezing while audio continues to play. Apparently it’s a hit-or-miss issue, only affecting the user who started the thread about half the time.
About a dozen commenters express that they’re experiencing a similar problem, with new comments as recent as today. Based on the comments, the problem seems like it’s affecting Z Fold 8 Ultra. Some users do say that they’re having the same problem on other Samsung phones, though, like the (non-Ultra) Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung hasn’t responded to the thread, and it’s not obvious what’s happening here. But with as many reports as the thread has accumulated over the past couple of weeks, it’s clear something is going on here.
