DMZ returns for Modern Warfare 4, and Infinity Ward has greatly expanded the extraction mode with an all-new social hub that looks similar to Call of Duty: WWII’s Headquarters. This new hangout lets you meet up with other players between matches, build loadouts, live test weapons, serves as loot storage, and more.
DMZ’s new FOB (Forward Operating Base) is a hub where you go between matches on Hajin. This sounds not only like an ambitious social space to chat with your teammates, but it also levels up with you as you progress in DMZ.
Within the FOB, you’ll have the ability to manage your loadout and operators, as you’ll be able to check their operator status, upgrade their traits, and select who you want to take into your next DMZ deployment. The FOB will also expand and give you more control over your loadout and overall experience.
One of the major problems with the DMZ beta in Modern Warfare 2 was the lack of storage. In a game where scavenging and extracting loot matters so much, DMZ had a woefully small storage capacity, which led to difficult decisions about what guns and other valuables you should keep. The FOB sounds like it will offer more storage capabilities, as you can store guns, valuables, as well ingredients for the 3D printer you’ll eventually unlock.
Leveling up in DMZ will expand your FOB with the following sections:
- 3D Printer: This uses a mix of Printer Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients to craft a variety of gear. The 3D Printer is also used to upgrade various stations in the FOB provided you have the required loot items.
- Gunsmith: Use in-game DMZ Cash to purchase attachments for looted weapons and to build brand new weapons from scratch. The attachments you can build are related to the level of the weapon and the shared attachments unlocked for that weapon. To increase the weapons you can build in Gunsmith, you need to find and extract weapon manuals.
- Vendor: The Vendor has a variety of weapons and other items for sale using DMZ Cash. The vendor’s wares rotate day-to-day, so you’ll want to check it often.
- Bounty Leaderboard: Track the most successful PvP bounty hunters and killers across the Exclusion Zone.
- Boss Board: Purchase intel on Lieutenants, then locate and prepare to hunt down Hajin’s most powerful adversaries. Additional information is also available for Commanders.
- Dog Tag Case: Display Dog Tags collected from defeated operators and favorite the ones you don’t want to lose.
- Stash/Loadout: The Stash allows you to store a variety of loot types from Weapons to Gear to 3D Printer Ingredients and more! Every time you extract, make sure to offload items you’ll need in future deployments. Equip weapons and gear in your Loadout, ready for the next infil.
- DMZ Orders: DMZ Orders are your guiding mission directives in DMZ. These assist with getting you onboarded, telling the story of DMZ and challenging you to master the exclusion zone.
- Firing Range: Test your weapons (especially your optics) and sharpen your aim in this wooded grove, with targets positioned from close to more than 100 meters away.
- Survival Kits: These are themed packs of loot items that can be opened and then used to gear up or used to craft.
DMZ has its own dedicated progression track which awards key printer recipes, unlocks the FOB stations mentioned above, and awards various other content all the way up to level 70.
DMZ isn’t free-to-play with Warzone this year, and instead the extraction mode is packed into Modern Warfare 4. Infinity Ward is showcasing a deeper progression system, and the Forward Operating Base definitely adds a new layer to DMZ’s grind and replayability.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
