Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 28, 2026, with a much broader city-building toolkit than the original Switch release. The package includes 25 buildable tiles, a map editor, 10 stated DLC expansions and content packs, and two graphics options, according to Insider Gaming’s report.
A Bigger Canvas for Switch 2 Cities
The increase from the original nine-tile limit to 25 gives players more room to plan and grow a city, while the map editor lets them shape landscapes before construction begins. The edition is optimized for Nintendo Switch 2 and also brings several building and management tools aimed at making detailed city planning easier.
That combination should suit players who like taking substantial strategy and simulation games on the go. Portable play is a big part of the appeal of devices such as the Steam Deck, where strategy and simulation games can fit into shorter sessions as well as longer building projects.
Performance, Tools, and Included Content
Paradox Interactive’s announcement lists a $49 launch price and a 70% loyalty discount for players who own Cities: Skylines on the original Switch. That discount runs from October 28, 2026, through April 28, 2027.
Players can choose a Performance Option targeting 60 FPS with upscaling and adjusted quality settings, or a Quality Option targeting 30 FPS and prioritizing visual fidelity. Keyboard-and-mouse support joins controller input, while construction improvements include precision placement, a distance indicator, updated snapping options, and a Quick Selection Tool for switching between tools and assets.
An Environmental Controls Panel allows real-time adjustments to the time of day, rain, fog, and environmental coloring. The announcement also describes 10 included DLC expansions and content packs, but its accompanying list names 11 items, so the stated total and itemized lineup do not quite match. The listed content ranges from expansions such as After Dark and Green Cities to radio and content packs.
Separate from the Switch 2 edition, Holiday Getaways, Mansions & Manors, and Blueprint Beats Radio arrive on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on October 28. They will be available separately or together in the $12.99 Estates & Escapes Bundle.
A More Flexible City-Building Setup
The practical draw is not just the larger map: the editor, finer placement tools, environmental controls, and mouse support give players more ways to approach a build. The two graphics targets also offer a straightforward choice between prioritizing frame rate and visual fidelity, making this a substantial Switch 2 upgrade rather than a routine port.
