Colt expands global network investment to power wave of AI growth

One of the key trends in the global networking industry has been enterprises, hyperscalers, neoscalers and wholesale providers scaling their artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and drive increasing and unprecedented demand for connectivity. To meet these needs, Colt Technology Services has announced further investment in its global network.

The investment expands the global digital infrastructure company’s reach across North America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and is designed to strengthen its presence in key metro markets, and upgrades critical optical fibre infrastructure to support the next generation of AI-driven growth.

Specifically, Colt believes that with the expanded network its customers benefit in a number of key areas including: greater scale and capacity across key AI corridors; more route diversity; high capacity, low latency connectivity to emerging digital hubs; expanded connectivity across Japan; enhanced access to major cloud, AI and enterprise ecosystems; improved performance, security and route choice; a future-ready European fibre network; more resilient, low-latency datacentre connectivity.

The upgrades will see corridors able to offer connectivity up to 400Gb to Colt’s global intelligent network, as well as investment in coast-to-coast routes and additional transatlantic and transpacific subsea infrastructure. The added route diversity includes a new point of presence in Johannesburg, South Africa and enhancements to Colt’s existing fibre network, as well as enhanced connectivity to emerging digital hubs across the Middle East, with deeper reach into Dubai and Türkiye.

The new fibre overlays and upgraded duct infrastructure are designed to support faster service deployment, greater flexibility and long-term growth in AI and cloud traffic. For example, the expanded connectivity across Japan, including a new 600km+ long-distance network from Osaka to Fukuoka and further planned expansion across West Japan. Security and route choice performance improvements see a fibre upgrade for the Marseille to Milan connection, linking two of Europe’s most important digital infrastructure hubs.

Cloud, AI and enterprise ecosystems are said to be boosted through continued infrastructure expansion in strategic European metros including Warsaw, Poland; Bordeaux, France; Zaragoza, Spain; and Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany, bringing the total number of Colt metropolitan networks to 55.

For datacentre connectivity, enabling seamless movement of data between public clouds, private clouds and AI infrastructure environments with Colt’s connections to 1,100 datacentres globally, connecting more data centres in Europe than any other provider

“AI readiness is about more than building capacity. It’s about connecting data, cloud and compute at the scale AI demands,” said Joe Scattareggia, executive vice-president of infrastructure and connectivity sales at Colt Technology Services.

“As hyperscalers, neoscalers and wholesale providers build for the next wave of AI, connectivity becomes a critical differentiator. Success will depend on collaboration across carriers, cloud providers, datacentres and technology partners. By continuing to invest in our global digital infrastructure, we’re bringing those ecosystems together and giving customers the reach, control and confidence they need to build, scale and grow.”

The new network investments build on a series of strategic infrastructure investments Colt has announced in 2026. In March 20026, the company announced that it had introduced infrastructure linking the US West Coast to Asia, elevating the firm from its position as the largest European B2B fibre provider to one of the largest in the world, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global digital infrastructure market. As with the new move, this network investment was designed to directly addresses surging demand driven by AI traffic.

Other developments include connecting the US East coast to Europe; expansion in Istanbul, Türkiye; wider expansion in the Middle East; fibre expansion in Zaragoza, Spain; and a metro network build in Frankfurt, Germany.
