Forget Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude, I finally found my favorite AI tool on Android

I’ve spent a good amount of time switching between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on my Galaxy S25 Ultra.

All three are excellent AI assistants, but neither has kept me from exploring other options.

I wanted something that felt faster, more straightforward, and a little less predictable. That’s when I decided to give Grok a serious shot.

After spending enough time with it, I have found several reasons to keep Grok on my Android home screen.

I didn’t expect to love this Gemini feature, but now I use it every day

I no longer rely on Circle to Search

Grok’s responses feel human

Finally, an AI with some personality

One thing that immediately stood out to me about Grok was how natural its responses felt.

Grok answering questions

Granted, ChatGPT and Gemini are excellent at answering questions, but sometimes their responses feel overly polished, diplomatic, or unnecessarily lengthy.

Grok takes a different approach.

It’s direct, occasionally witty, and doesn’t always sound like a corporate assistant.

For example, when I was debating whether to upgrade my perfectly capable Android phone to the latest flagship, I wanted a straightforward opinion rather than another lengthy comparison of specifications.

Grok’s approach was refreshing. I found the same pattern when I wanted to write a specific business email.

Most AI tools wrote emails with a professional tone, but they lacked a personal touch.

Grok’s response felt more human, as if I had written the email by myself.

I also enjoy how Grok handles casual conversations. I can throw in a sarcastic remark, ask a silly question, or challenge its suggestions without making the conversation feel robotic.

It isn’t necessarily smarter than ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini in every situation, but its personality makes interacting with AI a lot more enjoyable.

The Android app gets the basics right

There are small touches throughout the app

Grok’s Android app looks modern, feels responsive, and makes excellent use of my phone’s haptic feedback.

It’s a small detail, but those subtle vibrations during interactions make the experience feel more polished.

What impressed me even more was the number of features packed into one app.

Grok Imagine lets me generate images, edit existing photos, and create short AI videos without jumping between different services.

I use these all the time when I want to create a promotional flyer, festive card, or party banner on the go.

Also, in my short time, I found Grok’s video generation output more true-to-life than Gemini’s.

That’s a major advantage over Claude, which still lacks comparable built-in image and video generation tools.

Voice Mode is another highlight. Instead of being stuck with a generic assistant, I can experiment with different voices, personalities, and conversation styles.

Whether you want a straightforward discussion, an entertaining story, or something more playful, there are plenty of options to explore.

I also appreciate the inclusion of Kids Mode. However, I wouldn’t rely on Kids Mode alone to make the app safe for children.

Add customizable preferences, projects, and easy access to research tools, and Grok starts feeling like a complete AI experience rather than just another chatbot.

Grok works with all my preferred apps

I don’t miss anything

As a tech writer, my workflow is across several apps. I use Gmail and Outlook for communication, Google Drive for documents, Notion for organizing ideas, Asana for tracking assignments, and Canva and Figma for visual projects.

Constantly switching between these services on my Android phone isn’t productive.

With Grok, I can summarize important emails, find documents in Google Drive, look up information in a Notion database, and quickly go over my Figma designs.

The Notion integration is particularly useful because I don’t get that with Gemini’s standard connected-app experience.

That’s where Grok has become valuable to me. It isn’t just answering questions anymore. It’s becoming a central interface for much of my daily workflow.

There is even an option to build sites and apps, but I won’t use them on a small screen.

The X subscription is tempting

It covers everything for me

Another reason I am considering making Grok my primary AI assistant is the recently introduced X subscription.

Instead of paying separately for multiple services, I can get Grok, Cursor (an IDE tool that rivals VS Code), and X Premium benefits under a single subscription.

That’s a tempting proposition for someone like me who uses X regularly and relies on Cursor for side projects.

With the new subscription, I can use Grok for everyday research, brainstorming, voice conversations, and image generation on Android, then switch to Cursor on my desktop for coding projects.

Depending on the tier, I can get a verification checkmark, fewer ads, enhanced creator tools, and other Premium features.

Grok deserves more attention

Let me get this straight. Grok isn’t the best AI assistant at everything, and I don’t expect it to be.

If your daily workflow revolves around Google services like Keep Notes, Tasks, and YouTube Music, Gemini is a safer investment.

Similarly, if you spend more of your day working on complex coding projects, Claude is hard to beat.

However, my requirements are slightly different. Grok checks most of the boxes while delivering an excellent Android experience.
