Shrek 2 Remaster: Removed Xbox Listing Details

October 17, 2026

A removed Xbox Store listing has surfaced with details of an unannounced Shrek 2 remaster, including 4K resolution and co-op for up to four players. The listing described solo play or sessions with up to three friends, either locally or online; it did not amount to a formal announcement.

The details were reported by GameSpot and Pure Xbox, both of which described an Xbox page that appeared before an official reveal and was later taken down. The available information gives players a concrete feature list, but leaves the release timing and price unknown.

A 2004 game gets a modern presentation pass

Shrek 2: The Game originally arrived in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. Activision published the original, while Aspyr Media is named as the company bringing the remaster to market; GameSpot also notes Aspyr’s work on recent The Lord of the Rings re-releases.

The listing’s headline upgrades are better textures, an enhanced user interface and 4K resolution. That is a straightforward visual and presentation refresh rather than a disclosed overhaul of the game’s core design. Players have seen how much a refreshed presentation can change the feel of an older release, as with the Dying Light visual update.

Co-op, familiar characters and two new modes

The multiplayer details may be the most immediately useful part for returning players: the game can be played solo or with up to three friends, with both local and online co-op listed. Shrek, Fiona and Donkey are among the playable characters, according to the Xbox listing as described by GameSpot.

The remaster is also set to add a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode. Together with the visual updates, those additions give the rerelease a few extras beyond simply bringing the 2004 game to current hardware. Co-op remains a notable part of the pitch, a feature that can strongly shape expectations for a multiplayer game, as seen in discussions around Nightreign’s co-op features.

Platforms and release details are still unclear

The Xbox page did not give a release date or price, and its removal leaves the listing as the source of the details rather than a formal launch announcement. GameSpot says PlayStation availability is expected, but the available information does not confirm a complete platform list.

Separately, the official Shrek account posted a compilation of footage from games in the franchise, including the original Shrek 2. GameSpot reports that viewers have linked the post to the remaster, though no connection has been confirmed. Until an official announcement fills in the gaps, the key missing details are still the launch date, price and supported platforms.
