I turned Google Keep into my personal assistant with Gemini; it’s awesome

I have always liked Google Keep for its simplicity, but I often wished it could do more than store my notes and lists.

After all, most of the information I need is already scattered across Gmail, Google Docs, and Calendar.

That’s when I started experimenting with Gemini, and it changed how I use Google Keep.

With a few clever Gemini tricks, I have turned this basic note-taking app into a capable personal assistant.

I’ve been using Google Keep for years; I wish I had known about these tricks sooner

Google Keep is smarter than expected

My Google apps finally work together

Thanks to Gemini

After I give Gemini access to my Google Workspace account (from the Settings menu), I can use a single interface to fly through my notes, tasks, documents, emails, and appointments.

For example, I often use Google Docs to maintain detailed meeting notes with my editors.

Say I want to find the article ideas we discussed at our last editorial meeting.

Instead of opening the document and scrolling through several pages, I ask Gemini to find the relevant Google Docs file, extract the article ideas discussed under a specific header, and save them in a new Google Keep note called Upcoming Pitches.

Gemini can pull information from the document, organize it into a neat list, and save it to Keep without me having to copy anything.

I can even ask follow-up questions to refine the information before saving it.

The best part is that this isn’t limited to Google Docs. It works with Slides, Sheets, Tasks, and PDF files in Google Drive.

Important emails become useful notes

Gmail is another app where Gemini has made my workflow much easier. I receive dozens of emails every day, and some contain important information that I need to visit later.

Instead of manually sifting through my inbox, pulling out key details, and adding them to Keep, I now let Gemini handle the whole process.

For example, I can ask Gemini, “Get me my latest email from Carly, summarize it as a note in Google Keep, and create a reminder about it for tomorrow at 9 AM.”

Gemini can find the relevant email, extract the important information, and create a neatly organized Keep note with bullet points.

It can also set a reminder through Google Tasks, so I don’t forget to follow up the next morning.

All of this happens from a single interface, without me manually switching between three apps.

The possibilities are endless. I can turn travel confirmation emails into handy notes, pull key deadlines from work conversations, or create quick summaries of long email threads.

It’s a small change in how I manage my inbox, but it saves me a lot of repetitive work.

My brainstorming sessions become organized notes

Good ideas never disappear again

As a tech writer, I often come up with article ideas at random times.

Sometimes I am working on my desktop, taking a break, or browsing the web.

Earlier, I either jotted down these ideas in Google Keep or forgot about them entirely.

With Gemini and Google Keep, I have a much better way to capture and organize my thoughts.

For example, I can start a brainstorming session with Gemini and ask it to create a detailed interior budget for my 4BHK flat.

I can then continue the conversation about the material selection, contractors, and more and save the entire note to Google Keep.

I can even ask Gemini to include a short description and a few talking points under each idea, so I have a clear starting point when I sit down to write.

When another idea strikes, I can ask Gemini to add it to my existing Keep list.

This way, my brainstorming sessions aren’t buried in lengthy AI conversations.

Gemini Live makes Keep conversational

It’s a game-changer

Gemini live splitting notes in Keep

This is easily my favorite way to use Google Keep with Gemini.

Instead of opening the app, creating a new note, and typing everything manually, I start a conversation with Gemini Live (look for the Live button in Google Keep home), and explain what I need in natural language.

It feels more like talking to a personal assistant than using a traditional note-taking app.

I can tap the Live button in Google Keep, and ramble about several things and turn those thoughts into organized notes.

I can even ask it to split a lengthy note into separate notes.

I have already explored these capabilities in detail in my previous Google Keep Live experiment.

My second brain just evolved

Google Keep may not be the most feature-packed note-taking app out there, but combining it with Gemini has changed the equation for me.

It still has some limitations, and I occasionally need to double-check the results, but the convenience is hard to ignore.

If you rely on Google’s apps for your daily workflow, I highly recommend trying this combination.
