The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 didn’t really make waves when it was first released. Motorola did something no other brand had at the time: it delivered an ultra-premium foldable that cost a ton of money. That’s probably why it remains so obscure to this day.
However, that doesn’t mean the brand has completely ignored it. That said, a new report from Android Authority says the Razr Ultra 2025 is now getting Android 17, which is a pretty big deal. Motorola is late, but at least it’s finally delivering.
It’s reaching new places
It’s a pretty big deal when a phone lands a major update, especially when it’s one from Motorola. A user on Reddit noticed that their handset was receiving Android 17 and shared it with the community. What’s interesting is that it doesn’t look to be a wide release yet because most of the comments or users aren’t seeing the same update on their phones.
In addition to the new update, the user also states that TikTok was installed, and a previously deactivated Moto AI was reactivated. It’s not unusual to see bloatware and other unwanted apps find their way back to a phone after an update. I’ve seen it happen plenty of times over a number of brands.
The user shares that their Razr Ultra is an unlocked ATT model that is being used on US Mobile. As far as when this update will arrive on your Razr Ultra 2025 is anyone’s guess. But since the software has officially landed to one device, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing more of it on other phones.
It’s taking its sweet time
Android 17 first started to land on phones back in June 2026. This update arrived on Pixel phones, and it would be a couple of months until Samsung would start updating its own devices. Back in August, Motorola made a huge splash with its massive list that included 50 phones that would get the Android 17 update.
In September, the Razr, Edge, and Signature devices started to see the same update. The update also landed on the Nothing Phone (3) just a couple of weeks ago. It’s going to be a slow process to get it on all phones that can accept it, but it’s worth the time for such a large upgrade. This update this update should be rolled out to all compatible devices over the next couple of months.
What’s the future like?
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is expected to get three major updates over its lifetime, which means that Android 18 will be the last one it receives next year. However, the Razr Ultra 2025 will get bi-monthly security updates for four years total, which means the phone will remain up to date until 2028.
When it comes to standards, Motorola is thought to be one of the weakest when it comes to software support. In the past, they’ve lagged behind competitors in delivering updates, and the number of updates is also usually less. Google and Samsung lead the pack with seven years, while brands like Nothing and Motorola can range from three to seven years.
