Xbox Insiders can now buy cloud playtime without a Game Pass subscription, with packs starting at $3.99 for 10 hours, Microsoft announced on Xbox Wire on October 21, 2026.
The three introductory tiers are $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours and $11.99 for 50 hours. Xbox labels them “introductory launch pricing,” wording the announcement says signals the prices may change. Availability, purchasing options, eligible games and features vary by market, device, account eligibility and Insider preview ring, the post notes.
“Cloud playtime packs provide an ad-free cloud gaming experience, including shorter wait times, high-quality streaming, and playtime that remains available until it’s used.”
What the money buys
Buying playtime does not grant access to Xbox’s game library. Users must already own a cloud-playable game or use a supported free-to-play title, on a supported device. At the 10-hour tier, $3.99 works out to roughly $0.40 an hour, and the purchased hours do not expire. Insiders without Game Pass can also stream free with ads, though free sessions only cover games they already own and are capped at one hour.
The change lands the same month Xbox ends unlimited cloud streaming for Game Pass subscribers. From November, Game Pass Ultimate includes 15 hours of cloud streaming per month, Game Pass Premium 10 hours and Game Pass Essential 5. Microsoft said it expects the caps to affect about 4% of Game Pass subscribers.
How to get in
The preview is open to members of the Xbox Insider program, which is free to join. Xbox says the option gives Insiders without an active Game Pass subscription an early look before purchasable cloud playtime rolls out more broadly in November 2026, with no exact date given.
