Google Health 5.11 brings automatic tracking for 100+ workouts

There’s nothing like an update that brings massive changes. Google Health 5.11 has just landed, and it brings the automatic activity tracking count to over 100. This update is available for the Pixel Watch 3 and newer, and also applies to the Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge.

This is a big one

The reports come from the folks at 9to5Google, shedding light that the latest update to Google Health is now rolling out to all compatible devices. That means the Pixel Watch 5, 4, and Pixel Watch 3 will now have expanded capabilities.

Previously, the Pixel watch could only automatically detect up to 10 different activities, but now, that has been expanded to over 100, which is impressive to say the least. As part of the update, Google Health will now automatically log swimming, strength training, golf, cardio machines, and more.

Users will be able to edit the settings to fine tune the experience and make it even better. The result of all of this is you’re getting even more accurate tracking, with 9to5Google sharing that it’s twice as accurate as before. And to be clear, this update is also going to be available on the Fitbit Edge and Air.

Time to go screenless

The difference is software

For the most part, many brands use the same type of sensors in their products to get the data needed to track health and fitness metrics. What sets each one apart is the software that tracks and showcases that information.

While things used to be pretty basic, the essentials have evolved to include more things like stress levels, sleep quality, body energy, and more. These components easily show how your body is being impacted by the things you do throughout the day and night.

And the goal here is to present the most accurate results possible. For your everyday person, being off by a little doesn’t really matter, but if you’re a professional athlete, this can be a huge deal. And more importantly, this data needs to be accessible.

Brands need to keep things simple and easy to understand. That’s why there are at a glance features and reports that deliver the information you need when you care about it most. You can also dive into the details too, just in case you want to see the fine print.

Furthermore, you also want the ability to tweak settings to individual needs, and also offer a more expansive experience to those that need it. It’s a balancing act that’s very difficult to navigate. Luckily, most brands making fitness wearables and smartwatches have a pretty strong base.

So, things can only get better from here on out. And because the competition is fierce, you can expect Google to keep pushing things to new limits. The latest Google Health update is rolling out to Android devices. It’s also available on Apple products as well.
