Samsung Galaxy S27 is reportedly sticking with 25W charging speed yet again

Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 in February, featuring 25W charging speed that has remained unchanged in the flagship line, at least on the base model, for roughly seven years.

A new certification has been published detailing an upcoming Galaxy device, believed to be the Galaxy S27, and it shows Samsung will stick with the same charging speed in 2027. It suggests the base model will keep the slower charging speed, while the Galaxy S27 Plus, rumored Pro, and Ultra variants could continue to get the faster ratings.

No charging upgrades for 7 generations

Last month, Samsung’s Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ were certified in China, revealing that the two models will carry the SM-S9520 and SM-S9560 model numbers, respectively. Beyond the internal monikers, the regulatory listing also revealed that the pair will carry over their predecessors’ charging speeds.

Now, a new certification from Denmark’s Electrical Equipment Control, or DEMKO, first spotted by Android Treasure (via GSMArena), has been published and doubles down on what the smaller flagship will get.

Accordingly, the rated power delivery for the Galaxy S27 is listed at 9V DC and 2.77A. That gives you about 25W of maximum wired charging. That figure might not seem terrible when topping up a midge 4,300 mAh cell, as seen in the Galaxy S26.

Is 25W charging acceptable in 2027?

Samsung upgraded the Plus and Ultra models’ charging rate to 45W, so the company’s reasoning might simply boil down to the smaller battery inside the vanilla unit. The problem is that Samsung has used the same spec since the Galaxy S20, making virtually no progress over several hardware cycles.

Even Google, widely known to slack off on hardware specs, gave the Pixel 11 a modest charging boost in both wired and wireless. This leaves little excuse for Samsung to skip a charging refresh on the Galaxy S27.

Worse, the Galaxy S27 could also carry the same 15W wireless charging, which would position it at the bottom of the flagship spectrum.

Widening the gap between vanilla and Ultra models

Beyond the charging specs, the standard Galaxy S27 could ship with the same flat frame and floating camera lenses as the Galaxy S26.

Meanwhile, Samsung could further differentiate it from the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is tipped to get a much larger 5,700 mAh battery based on recent certifications, along with a revamped rear camera module mirroring the iPhone 18 Pro. If this pans out, it would leave the Galaxy S27 in an even more compromised position than the Galaxy S26.

We only need to wait a few months to confirm this, as Samsung is reportedly accelerating the Galaxy S27 debut, which could arrive in January 2027 or early February, according to a South Korean leaker.
