Digital Extremes will open Soulframe’s invite-only alpha to every player on Friday, November 6, the studio announced on the game’s official site during its live Devstream 18.
The open phase, which Digital Extremes calls Open Preludes, drops the invitation requirement entirely. Anyone can sign up for an account on the Soulframe website and download the studio’s proprietary launcher to get in, with no key needed. The paid Founders program stays unchanged once open access begins.
The game remains PC-only, running through Soulframe’s own client rather than Steam, where the store page still lists the fantasy action RPG as coming soon. Until now Soulframe has been closed to everyone except invited players since 2023, roughly two to three years of testing that the studio kept behind a signup wall.
What new players will find
Newcomers land in a game that is not finished. Creative director Geoff Crookes has said what is playable now is just the functional bones of the final game. Players who want context can catch up on the 16 existing Preludes chapters, which cover the world, the characters and how the systems work; Soulframe’s story quests are called Fables.
Open access arrives just ahead of a major turning point. Preludes 17, titled Verse of the Veilands, is expected later in November with no exact date announced, and it restructures how the game opens. Lead designer Scott McGregor called it “probably one of the biggest, most violent changes we’ve made to the structure of the game in a long while.”
The update also adds mounts, letting players raise an Omen wolfpup into a rideable adult wolf, and a new Pact tied to the villainous Ode faction, a hunter type with spike traps and bolas. Its final name is undecided. A region-corruption system will let the Ode siphon Midrath’s landscape, with events and loot shifting as zones are cleansed, a setup Crookes has admitted makes the game look harsher at first glance than the cozy world testers praised.
