Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone says Stardew Valley’s next update will likely be the biggest in the game’s history, with a probable release in 2027. Barone made the remarks on stage at the Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, captured by an attending fan and first reported by GamesRadar+.
“We’re working on the 1.7 update, which is looking to be the largest Stardew Valley update ever,” Barone said in the on-stage remarks. “It’s jam-packed. Clint and Sandy are just the tip of the iceberg, there’s so much more in the update.”
A decade of updates, and the largest is still ahead
Stardew Valley first released on February 26, 2016, and Barone has kept it in active development ever since. Updates 1.5 and 1.6 added whole regions, festivals and more, and Barone now suggests 1.7 may top both. The already-confirmed additions, romanceable versions of Clint and Sandy and a new farm type, are now framed as a fraction of what is coming.
Barone first confirmed he was working on 1.7 in August 2025, after many players assumed update 1.6 would be the game’s last. He is also developing his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, which he has previously admitted is “taking a long time.”
No date beyond 2027
“You guys are in for a real treat, and it’ll probably come out some time next year,” Barone told the crowd.
That is as narrow as the window gets. Barone gave no month or season for 1.7, and the update’s full feature list has not been announced beyond the marriage candidates and the new farm type.
