Google Health is becoming an important part of the company’s portfolio as health and fitness take priority for many Android users. We saw a major update to the app at the end of October, but it’s now getting another update with small but meaningful changes.
The folks at 9to5Google highlighted the update, but you can find the details on the Google Health Help page. Google Health 5.12 is now available for Android and iOS.
New ways to log your data
It’s not as feature-packed as the last release, but it includes vital changes that will make the app more robust. The first major change being highlighted is the ability to manually log your blood pressure.
The app will also now be able to get blood pressure readings from other apps like Health Connect or Apple Health. The update will also let Premium users log blood pressure data using the Google Health Coach.
Google Health will now be able to handle pregnancies, pausing cycle predictions and period notifications automatically. Instead, users will see weeks of pregnancy.
Premium subscribers will be able to “personalize coach conversations and feed card insights.” Health will now automatically group food items when logged within the same 60-minute window.
New visuals that you can interact with
Furthermore, users will be able to pull up “blood pressure graphs in the Health tab under Heart.” In addition, the update will introduce a new “glucose visualization that overlays logged and tracked events (exercise, sleep, nutrition) on the graph.”
Users will also be able to input data directly on the graph. Google has fixed its Resilience scores, so they should now calculate correctly. Previous measurements were lower than they should have been.
This change will also affect previous numbers. So look for those changes. We all like to get personalized reports on our health and fitness journeys, which is why we’ll all enjoy the new progress summaries rolling out with this update.
England can now stay more connected
We’ve seen this in the US with only a few providers, but in England, users will have access to a feature that lets them sync records from NHS organizations.
Users can do this by connecting the Google Health app to Patients Know Best, a popular personal health record platform. This is highly convenient, and I wish it were available in other regions.
Again, this update is now available for Android and iOS. We like where this app is going, and we have no doubt that Google will continue to bring more features in the near future.
