How to get gum out of pubic hair

In the third episode of Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest, protagonist Mavis (played by Michelle Buteau) has a sticky situation when her gum gets stuck to a date’s pubic hair.

Mortifying, yes, but also a real-life scenario. Mavis and her hookup Luca (Marouane Zotti) solve the problem with peanut butter and ice — as it turns out, is not a bad way to do it.

To get chewing gum out of hair (pubic or otherwise), you can use peanut butter or oil, said dermatologist and writer at My Psoriasis Team(opens in a new tab), Dr. Patricia Gaile Espinosa. Virgin coconut oil, mineral oil, olive oil, or vegetable oil are good options; there’s oil in peanut butter as well, which is apparent if you’ve ever used natural peanut butter and seen oil rise to the top of the jar.

Oily substances help stiffen gum, Espinosa explained. Apply the PB or oil all over the gum and wait a few minutes to let the gum harden. Once it stiffens, it’s much easier to remove from hair.

Using ice is another way to stiffen the gum(opens in a new tab) and make it easier to remove, according to Healthline. Apply ice for a few minutes and let the gum harden before trying to remove it.

No matter someone’s genitalia, be mindful when removing gum from the area. If the person has a vulva, take extra care to not get oil or peanut butter inside the vagina.

And if you use ice, be cautious as well since ice can burn(opens in a new tab). You may want to use an ice pack or frozen veggies instead. Once the gum is out, however, maybe you can use ice cubes during foreplay to get in the mood again.
