@Foxtrot Aside from the ridiculous notion that an imposter could possess Deadshot’s skill, let’s also take a moment to appreciate how the world’s greatest detective missed the fact that Deadshot wasn’t black when he fought him in Arkham City.
I don’t think the developer gave it as much thought as you have beyond “uh duh Will Smith is famous, and he’s black, and Suicide Squad the movie was a success, and Will Smith is black, so let’s make Deadshot black, because Will Smith.”
I think it’s less about that and more about the fact that the Gaas surge started soon after Destiny released in September 2014. Fast forward all these years later and Gaas just doesn’t succeed often in mainstream, and it didn’t become the industry changer that publishers expected it to. Not to mention the popularity of the Suicide Squad in general is in decline after all the bloated content around them. However this game was already in too deep and too late to reverse the decision.
Imagine Rocksteady had done this game as a true sequel to Arkham Knight, like a horror experience where Batman is gone and the Justice League has fallen to Brainiac. Without all the stupid humour, without the Gaas. And when Batman appears under Braniac’s control it would be absolutely terrifying.
Or, and this might sound just crazy to studio executives, but they could have done this game as Batman and Wonder Woman being the only ones to avoid Braniac’s control and it’s them against the Justice League, teaming up with the Suicide Squad. Imagine playing as Batman and Wonder Woman, since Rocksteady has done plenty of playable characters before. That would have been an insane experience, way better than this trash.
Instead of inventive boss battles, a damn compelling and emotional story that would be a worthy entry in the Arkhamverse, and an exposed and vulnerable Batman after Arkham Knight against the Justice League, I look forward to pressing X to jump around and holding R2 to shoot the Justice League or whatever stupid shiny objects are inserted into the game to depower them.
