Borderlands 4 Day One Patch Will Help Performance, But Don’t Expect It To Run On Low-Spec Hardware

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has responded to a preview complaining about Borderlands 4’s performance. He says that the day one patch will improve performance, but that the game may not be playable on PCs that don’t meet the minimum system requirements.

Pitchford made this statement in response to a Destructoid preview of Borderlands 4 from staff writer Scott Duwe, which praised the game but raised concerns about its PC performance. Responding to Duwe, Pitchford wrote on X, “The Day 1 patch does a lot! That said, the expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable.”

However, there was some miscommunication. Duwe was not running the game at below minimum specifications, as 2K PR later verified. Furthermore, a failing power supply unit contributed to Duwe’s technical issues. Eventually, Duwe updated the preview saying, “After working with 2K PR, I’ve worked out the majority of the worst graphical issues I was having.”
