Amazon Luna will try to win you back with massive update later this year

October 1, 2025

Amazon Luna is a cloud gaming platform that has been around since 2022, but it has never made a massive splash in the video game industry. Amazon is clearly hoping for that to change, as it plans to overhaul the service later this year.

That’s ultimately coming in the form of a UI refresh and renewed focus on both social and AAA games. While I don’t think these changes will revolutionize the video game industry like some hope cloud gaming will, they might be enough to at least get Amazon Prime subscribers interested in Amazon Luna again.

What changes are coming to Amazon Luna?

An AI-driven party game starring Snoop Dogg is a part of the overhaul

As detailed by Variety, all of Amazon Luna’s upcoming changes seem to center around making it a more alluring bonus for Amazon Prime subscribers, whether they typically play games or not. Currently, many games are locked behind the Luna Premium subscription, but Amazon is attempting to increase what Luna has to offer to Prime subscribers who don’t want to pay extra.

That will include a collection that features games like Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and TopSpin 2K25. On the social game front, Amazon is launching a new collection of titles aptly called GameNight, which will feature social party games that don’t require controllers.

The headliner for GameNight is Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg, where players try to prove themselves innocent to “Judge Snoop Dogg,” who speaks to players with AI-generated responses. I’m not particularly a fan of AI-driven video games, so I’m not sure I’ll play this. Still, first-party support for Amazon Luna has been lacking, so it’s good to see that is starting to change.

The following games are confirmed to be part of the GameNight collection:

  • Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg
  • Angry Birds
  • Draw & Guess
  • Exploding Kittens
  • Falppy Golf Party
  • Taboo
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Clue

The UI of Amazon Luna has also stayed relatively the same since 2022, so we can expect a refresh on that as well. All of these changes are expected to happen to the service before the end of 2025.

While I used Amazon Luna a bit back in 2022 and was optimistic about cloud gaming in the years when it and Google Stadia emerged, I admittedly don’t use the service at all anymore. I’m guessing I’m not alone, and something needed to be done to overhaul the service and to make more Prime subscribers check it out.

I’m not sure that an AI party game and cloud versions of older AAA games are enough to do that for me personally. However, this is a good opportunity for Amazon Luna to reassert itself in the video game industry, rather than fall into obscurity.
