I agree that Blue Prince should have been nominated for GOTY. I’m not so sure it should have taken DK’s spot, though, instead, I think it should have replaced DS2. I’m 99% sure that one was only nominated because of who made it.
As for Arc Riders, I honestly don’t even know if I’d put it in the Best Multiplayer category. Don’t get me wrong, the game is good, but not because of its multiplayer component. It’s hard to explain, one of those cases where the whole is much better than the sum of its parts.
And Dispatch, I feel, is in a similar situation. It’s not great in any specific aspect, but it’s very good in many, which makes the game fun overall. So, just like Arc Riders, I don’t think there’s one specific category where it would clearly fit.
As for the other categories and nominees, I do feel that games like Clair Obscur and Ball x Pit shouldn’t be in Best Indie, since they have third-party publishers. The Best Mobile category definitely has some odd picks, like Sonic Rumble and Destiny Rising.
For Best Art Direction, it’s kind of sad that games like South of Midnight and Bye Sweet Carole got ignored, but what can you do.
