Their announcement was met with resounding joy by other YouTube Music users. One posted: “HOLY SHIT??? FINALLY. Never thought I’d see the day when they’d even attempt to implement this omg Hopefully it’s available on desktop soon too, I primarily use it there.”
It is a bit wild to see that level of enthusiasm for a feature that has been available from the very beginning from competitors, but it has narrowed the gap in features and could attract new YouTube Music subscribers. The service offers a slight, dollar-per-month savings over Spotify and is known to be a better place to discover new music.
There is no word on when this feature will roll out to everyone. The Reddit user who noticed the change is using version 9.20.52 of the app, though another person with the same version responded that they did not have the same playlist sorting options.
If you’re a YouTube Music user and want to see if you have the feature yet, hopefully you are not among those affected by the current bug that stops playback after one song, and you can sort and play content to your heart’s content.
