Here it comes! We’re no strangers to September being the kick-off month for a busy period on the gaming calendar, but this year, it looks like everyone is attempting to avoid being caught in GTA 6’s blast radius. That means that you’re going to be spoiled for choice this month, as the next couple of weeks are overloaded with big AAA releases, new games hitting early access on PC, and smaller experiences sandwiched between all the latest releases. Maybe Green Day should avoid its scheduled month of hibernation this year.
Some of the highlights include a brand-new Onimusha from Capcom, former Witcher developers putting their own spin on grim fantasy with The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Canada’s finest export, Wolverine, suiting up for his first solo adventure in many years. BlizzCon 2026

BlizzCon makes its grand return this year, and once again, all eyes are on the future of Blizzard. We’re expecting to see what’s next for games like World of Warcraft, Diablo 4, and Overwatch, and it’s also rumored that we could see a StarCraft shooter revealed alongside other new projects. If you can’t make it this year, fret not, because you can still spend an absurd amount of cash to give you that BlizzCon-at-home feeling thanks to Blizzard offering a bunch of bundle deals on game DLC.
Aerial_Knight’s MrFreezy

Described as a light-hearted puzzle game about a woman who moonlights as the serial killer Mr. Freezy–and has racked up hundreds of decapitations like a Highlander in an overpopulated gathering of immortals–you’ll need to figure out the mystery behind this prolific murderer. How do you do that? By using your head and the noggins of her victims that she kept in storage to solve various puzzles.
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault

After spending almost a year in early access, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is ready for its 1.0 release this month. Just like its 2018 predecessor, it’s a half-roguelike, half-shop-running-sim where you have to juggle adventuring with commerce, and in the months since it first appeared on PC, the game has been updated with all kinds of improvements, updated combat, and more biomes to help you ply your trade.
The Blood of Dawnwalker

One of the first big games for September, The Blood of Dawnwalker is the debut title from Rebel Wolves, a studio that includes several former Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developers. Set in a brutal version of medieval Europe where monsters from folklore are real, players are in a race against time to harness their new dark powers, power up for a fight against the vampire lord Brencis, and save the day. The game’s unique hook of missions moving the clock forward as you prepare for that fated showdown adds just the right amount of urgency, as The Blood of Dawnwalker subtly reminds you that choices have consequences inside its dark fantasy world. So far, it looks the game offers a tantalizing amount of content to experience, but you’re going to need to do a few runs to experience it all.
Orbitals

Orbitals may look like It Takes Two if it were a ’90s anime, but beneath the surface, there’s a sense of childlike wonder that makes this co-op platformer adventure hard to put down. Telling a classic shonen story that’s full of ups and downs for its lead protagonists, Maki and Omura, Orbitals is shaping up to be an incredibly captivating co-op game that’s full of silly fun and shared moments for players to talk about.
NBA 2K27
- Release date: September 4 (August 26 early access)

Another year, another lucrative entry in Take-Two Interactive’s NBA 2K series. The core game has proven to be the best not by default–considering the lack of competitors when it comes to basketball–but by offering players a polished experience full of modes, highly detailed graphics, and on-court action that continues to iterate on the previous year’s model. It looks like more of the same for NBA 2K27, but the big question remains: Just how egregious will the microtransactions be this year?
Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom has been on fire throughout 2026 thanks to Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata, but can it extend its winning streak further with Onimusha: Way of the Sword? So far, it looks like this revival of the cult-classic hack-and-slash action game series is focused on what made the original games so much fun in the PS2 era: solid combat, imaginative monster designs, and plenty of feudal Japanese flavor. The demo for the new Onimusha game has hinted at a slick return to the franchise, one where skillful use of the sword and Oni powers will unlock a power-fantasy experience for players. If you’re a fan of old-school action games and the sound of steel-on-steel combat, you’ll get a kick out of the new Onimusha.
Halloween: The Game

You might want to avoid taking a trip to Haddonfield for a while, because wouldn’t you know it, ol’ Michael Myers is on the prowl again. A new release from the makers of the Friday the 13th video game, Illfonic, Halloween: The Game pits players against the merciless Shape of evil as they use cunning and guile to survive a few rounds against Michael. And if you don’t want to play as one of his potential butcher’s knife pincushions? You can don the modified William Shatner mask yourself and stalk other players as Myers, who has access to several supernatural powers in this game.
Mewgenics
- Release date: September 8
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2
One of the best PC games of 2026, Mewgenics is also about to become one of the best console games of 2026 thanks to an upcoming port. It’s a chaotic, deep tactical RPG that blends an engaging roguelike loop with selective cat-breeding, and don’t be too surprised if it consumes dozens of hours once you develop a cat fancy for its signature blend of weirdness.
Cat Me If You Can

Speaking of kitties, you can also check out Cat Me If You Can this month. While you won’t be playing god by breeding an unstoppable army of cats like in Mewgenics, you will be exploring a charming and cozy game set inside a beautifully handcrafted black-and-white world. The main goal is to search for hidden cats to photograph, and once you do, their colorful personalities will help restore vibrancy to the world around you.
Sprawl Zero
- Release date: September 8
- Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2
Inspired by old-school first-person shooters of the early 2000s, Sprawl Zero is all about grounded combat and cunning enemies that will aggressively move against you. As the cybernetic supersoldier Five, you’re never outgunned as you have access to an arsenal of over 40 weapons and good ol’ bullet time for when you need to slow things down in your fight against an oppressive military junta.
Sunset Summit

The era of friendslop continues, and for the next co-op game that’s bound to descend–very quickly–into chaos, you can check out Sunset Summit. Built for 1-8 players, you and your pals will get to explore several floating islands and use teamwork to reach the summit–or fall to your doom, whichever happens first.
Wardogs
- Release date: September 10
- Platforms: PC via early access
Is there space for another first-person shoot with modern warfare sensibilities at its core? Wardogs is looking like a challenger to the likes of Battlefield and Call of Duty with its large-scale conflicts, base-building elements, and destructive environments, and it’ll be dropping into early access this month. Billed as a player-driven sandbox, developer Bulkhead says the game is a tactical take on all-out warfare.
NHL 27
- Release date: September 11(September 4 early access)
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
In case NBA 2K27 doesn’t scratch your sports itch, you can check out the very ice action of EA’s NHL 27. One of the big additions this year is a Madden-style Connected Franchise mode, where up to 32 human-controlled teams can compete in a shared online league. EA says this feature includes an extensive array of tools for running multi-season leagues with friends, and other new features in this year’s game include team-specific data powered by real-world NHL Edge tracking data, smarter player AI, and a big upgrade to defense.
Marvel’s Wolverine

After almost a decade of crafting Spider-Man stories for PlayStation and PC–as well as a really good Ratchet and Clank game–Insomniac’s next project sees the studio put its own spin on Wolverine. Early previews have been positive, and if you’re looking to be the best there is at what Wolverine does–which ain’t pretty!–then you can pop some adamantium claws and unleash the animal within in this single-player action game.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Fire Emblem continues to be one of the best Nintendo franchises to lose yourself in for dozens of hours, and with the latest entry in the franchise offering what feels like four games’ worth of Fire Emblem in one sitting, we’re not expecting to see daylight for quite a few weeks. Like the previous Fire Emblem titles, Fortune’s Weave is a turn-based tactical RPG that balances battlefield action with relationship-building moments between missions, but this time, you’ve got nuns with guns.
Another Eden Begins
- Release date: September 17
- Platforms: PC, Switch 2, Switch
In the mood for some RPG fun? September has several games in this franchise that look intriguing, including Another Eden Begins. This is a heavily reworked single-player adaptation of the original free-to-play mobile game, Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, which removes all gacha elements, has redesigned gameplay elements, and a New Game+ mode in case you want to experience the alternate endings of this time-travel adventure.
Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter

Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter was one of 2025’s best RPGs, and Nihon Falcom is continuing the remake of the early Trails games with the first sequel, Trails in the Sky: 2nd Chapter. Picking right up after the cliffhanger ending of last year’s game, 2nd Chapter follows Estelle Bright and her fight against the secret society Ouroboros. The sequel includes flexible party-management and new combo moves, as well as colorful graphics to make you feel like you’re really inside of an anime fantasy adventure.
Graveyard Keeper 2

Graveyard Keeper 2 looks perfect for fans of human resources, as you’ll need to assemble the perfect undead army to win battles and turn those zombies into a key component of your business ventures. Manage your own medieval graveyard, automate production, and prepare to face off against the zombie hordes in this dark comedy.
Control Resonant

The direct sequel to 2019’s Control, Control Resonant ditches shape-shifting guns and the Oldest House for malleable melee weapons and a New York City that has seen better days. Developer Remedy Entertainment is dropping its own brand of hack-and-slash action into the busy month of September, and while the combat looks great, just don’t expect to be doing any parrying in it.
Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush

We’ve all felt that yearning to buy an irresponsible number of Hot Wheels products and use them to build the ultimate race track, a vibe that Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush leans into. Instead of crowding your home with orange ramps and matchbox-sized cars, you can keep an entire island’s worth of tiny vehicles and circuits inside your console or PC, and see if you have what it takes to become a Rush Master. Developer Milestone SRL–which made the highly enjoyable Hot Wheels Unleashed games–says there’ll be over 150 vehicles to collect in the game, plenty of parts to customize your car with, and a variety of modes to enjoy.
Silent Hill: Townfall

Silent Hill fans are eating well lately–and with more to come–as Konami’s renewed focus on the franchise has served up several delicious games from the IP so far. The next survival-horror meal out of the kitchen has a Scottish flavor to it, and from what we’ve played so far, Silent Hill: Townfall could continue the winning streak for the franchise thanks to its unique gameplay mechanics and a distinct sense of horror.
EA Sports FC 27

Even more sports are on the horizon, and this time, it’s time to kick off with EA Sports FC 27. Among the updates in the 2026 edition of EA’s annual soccer series are major updates to team AI, a brand-new social hub for casual footie modes, and updates to Ultimate Team.
Toem 2

Get ready for a new photo adventure this month in Toem 2, as the sequel focuses again on spotting hidden details, helping people out, and documenting life’s wonders. While the core gameplay is all about snapping pictures to solve puzzles and uncover secrets, you can also try out new attachments on your camera to overcome various problems in each region and make new discoveries–at your own pace, of course.
Minecraft Dungeons 2

Minecraft is riding high right now as the main game remains popular, and the franchise is set to expand with another live-action movie. To keep the momentum going, Minecraft Dungeons 2 invites you to drop the pickaxe and pick up a sword. Nivalis Nights

Cloudpunk’s developer is no stranger to the cyberpunk genre, and for the studio’s next game, it’s once again venturing into neon-drenched streets for some high-tech dystopian fun. Nivalis Nights is all about taking down the megacorporations of the future, as you’ll start from the bottom and work your way up to the very top. You’ll need to manage supply chains and keep patrons happy, using your profits to grow steadily during working hours, then focus on sabotaging the competition during your downtime.
