The Pokemon Company will shut down Pokemon Unite on March 23, 2027, ending five years of the free-to-play MOBA on Nintendo Switch and mobile. Service ends at 00:00 UTC that day, when players will no longer be able to log in or battle, the development team said in the official announcement.
“We regret to inform you that service for Pokemon UNITE will end on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC,” the Pokemon Unite development team said in the notice on the game’s website. The company gave no reason for the closure, and none appears in the announcement.
Pokemon Unite launched on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 and moved to mobile later that year, becoming one of the few mainstream MOBAs on a Nintendo platform. Its closure removes a live-service pillar for players who built five years of unlocked characters and cosmetic collections on it.
Spending already curtailed
Aeos gems, the game’s premium currency, can no longer be purchased: the announcement came alongside the suspension of gem sales, new Unite Club memberships and automatic subscription renewals. Players who still hold gems can keep spending them until the shutdown, and current subscribers keep their benefits until their memberships expire. The announcement does not address refunds.
What players can still do
A final update on November 12 will add a special event letting players earn previously released items, including Unite licenses and Holowear, giving collectors a last window to complete their collections before the servers close. A new Library feature will preserve unlocked Pokemon, cosmetics, achievements and tournament records after closure, and the Practice Area will remain available for viewing Pokemon moves and Holowear effects. The esports scene outlives the servers, narrowly: the Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will go ahead as planned, with qualifiers beginning December 5, 2026. The shutdown itself arrives March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC, which falls on March 22 in the evening in the Americas.
